I'm a young singer, have only been training for two years and have just started an undergrad degree in Trinity College Dublin in Music Education - I LOVE you blog : ) WOuld you mind elaborating on what you mean by "chest" ? Are you referring to where you place the voice/breathe...? Sorry, I'm just not sure what you mean! Any explanation you can give would be much appreciated, thank you!

HollyLet's Jolly Well Have A Picnic!https://www.blogger.com/profile/09935699717587032122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6919674981128634746.post-22466905456852167532010-11-10T01:03:21.444-05:002010-11-10T01:03:21.444-05:00This is a beautiful blog post, almost serendipitou...This is a beautiful blog post, almost serendipitous as I am spending so much time with the horses in Oregon this month alongside my singing, which always provokes a lot of thought and emotion. I watch the world around me, as horses and humans co-exist, with a certain tightness in my chest, as I have come to the realization that so few people know to value Foundation.

For riders, Foundation is the relationship between horse and human. For the singer, at least in my experience, Foundation is about bowing to the process which reveals the voice in its truest form, no matter what the process, and thus the voice, might demand from the singer's heart, mind, and body. Once the singer has bowed completely to her unfolding voice, she can begin a true relationship with it in understanding and in peace.

The tightness is my chest is relieved when I read things like your post, and my heart feels not only release but jumps a little "hoorah!", feeling fortified to continue its journey.Opera Organicallyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14710656534217184278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6919674981128634746.post-43327402311688125022010-11-09T11:32:03.300-05:002010-11-09T11:32:03.300-05:00Dear Voicetalk,

But on the other hand one must know his worth and current standing and you my friend have been at the top of the game for a while now. Knowing this gives you the "juice" you need to make it through those torturous evenings. Kudos my friend! You deserve every good thing coming to you!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6919674981128634746.post-92049300881431281112010-11-09T08:18:27.520-05:002010-11-09T08:18:27.520-05:00Beautiful tribute to a great teacher. Francesco Lamperti was noted as saying that the 'ah' must come from the 'bottom of the throat'. If this was not present, one might be making sound, but he didn't consider it singing.Daniel Shigohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12736080550398734909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6919674981128634746.post-59279772559976804042010-11-09T06:41:30.227-05:002010-11-09T06:41:30.227-05:00Well said, JR. I am especially touched by the quote: "È molto difficile convincere un cantante non-dottato con presta facilità che sia arrivato al livello più alto. Si crede sempre in cammino, mai arrivato!" It has been my wife who continues to remind me that, while seeking is a wonderful quality, it must not ever be so. If it continues to such a high degree it is to the detriment to one's singing. There must be "arrivato!"

It is nearly impossible to say of myself, even the week of an important debut. But I can appreciate this debut did not happen until I set seeking aside and heeded my wife's and agents' words.

I'll probably get fat now too. :-)Opera Rockshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15646209938742888449noreply@blogger.com
